Scouting Locally

Administration services

For many years we have been employing staff on behalf of Berkshire County Scout Council to carry out administration and local development. In doing so we effectively provide a payroll system for Berkshire Scouts, alleviating some of their administrative burden.

Local Development Officers (LDO)

In partnership with the Berkshire Scouts, we employ two Local Development Officers (LDO), whose role is to promote and develop Scouting in Berkshire, focusing on developing Scouting in new ways and new areas. They visit schools, recruit volunteers to run new or existing Scout groups and promote interest amongst young people. Over the last few years, scout numbers in Berkshire have doubled from 5500 to 11,000 as a result of actions taken by the LDO’s and other efforts. We facilitate all employment services, provide office and other business resources, and contacts in community project work.

Sponsorship and Support

BSEL provides sponsorship and support for many projects and expeditions undertaken by Berkshire Scouts. This has included in recent years providing equipment and sponsored vehicle hire for major international camps such as WINGS and international expeditions such as Slovenia, Alps, Massif 20-10, etc. We also provided financial support for the Project Africa 2011 expedition to Uganda as well as the 2015 trip.

MiDAS - Minibus training

BSEL also expands the opportunities available to Berkshire Scout groups by providing MiDAS minibus training and vehicle loan to Scout and GirlGuiding leaders, extending their range and allowing their Scouts to embark on activities further afield.
